How to Choose a Plastic Surgeon

To achieve the optimal outcome for your surgery you should select a certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon who is a fellow of the Australasian College of Surgeons. We can be identified by the letters “FRACS (Plastic & Reconstructive)” after our names.

Certified Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons meet the following strict standards:

• Certification by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
• Completion of a minimum of five years of plastic surgery registrar training under the guidance of and mentoring by senior consultant plastic surgeons.
• Graduation from an accredited medical school degree of seven year duration.
• Pass comprehensive written and oral examinations, as well as continual assessment of their technical skills and judgement during their five years of training.
• Complete a continuing medical education programme that is assessed annually by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
• Perfrom surgery in accredited surgical facilities and hospitals.
• Are allowed to belong to the New Zealand Association of Plastic Surgeons (NZAPS), a collegial body that promotes excellence in plastic surgical care.
